Only You know Your ways, true sovereign Nanak
→ Only you truly understand your divine play, O Nanak, the true Lord.
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਰਦਾਨਾ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ
I am your Mardana (devotee), you are my giver Nanak
→ I am your humble companion like Bhai Mardana, and you are my benefactor.
ਤਰ ਦੀ ਤਰੱਪ ਨਾਲ ਜਦ ਜੁੜਦੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਤਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ
When the yearning soul connects with Your string, Nanak
→ When the soul cries in longing and connects with your divine chord, O Nanak.
ਓਹੀਓ ਓਹ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਇਕ ਸਾਡੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ
That very One remains between us, Nanak
→ That divine presence stays between you and me — always, Nanak.
ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ, ਤੇਰੇ ਚੋਂ ਬੋਲੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ
You are within me, and from within you speaks the formless, Nanak
→ You live within me, and through you speaks the voice of the Formless One (God), O Nanak.
ਤੂੰਹੀ ਇਸ ਪਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ, ਤੂੰਹੀ ਉਸ ਪਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ

In Your will, let there be good for all
→ Let the well-being of all happen in accordance with your will, O God.
ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਰਮਜ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਸ ਤੂੰਹੀ ਇਕ ਜਾਣਦਾ
Only You know the depth of Your mysteries
→ Only you understand the secrets and ways of your divine being.
ਤੂੰਹੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਸੂਰਤ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ
Only You recognise the image of the Timeless One
→ You are the one who truly perceives the form of the Eternal, the Akaal Purakh.
ਰੂਹਾਂ ਰੌਸ਼ਣਾਈਆਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਨੇ
Souls are lit by the wisdom of Your Bani (word)
→ Your sacred teachings bring enlightenment to souls.
ਆਏ ਕਈ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੁੱਲਾਂ ਕਈ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਨੇ
Many priests, mullahs, and scholars have come
→ Many intellectuals, priests, and spiritual leaders have approached Your wisdom.
ਆਪੇ ਸਿਰ ਝੁਕਦਾ ਆ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ
Even they bow their heads in Your court, Nanak
→ Even the learned surrender before Your divine court, O Nanak.
ਚਿਹਰੇ ਤੇ ਨੂਰ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾਮ ਖੁਮਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ
Radiance on the face, intoxication of the Name in the eyes, Nanak
→ There's a divine glow on the face and the sweet ecstasy of God's Name in the eyes, O Nanak.
ਕੋਈ ਆਖੇ ਵਲੀ ਔਲੀਆ, ਕੋਈ ਆਖੇ ਪੀਰ ਤੂੰ
Some call You a saint, others call You a spiritual guide
→ People see you as a wali (friend of God), a peer (guide), each in their own way.
ਕੋਈ ਦਰਵੇਸ਼ ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਆਖੇ ਫਕੀਰ ਤੂੰ
Some call You a mystic, some a faqir (ascetic)
→ Some see you as a wise renunciate or a humble servant of the Divine.
ਬਾਬਾ ਬਣ ਧੁਰ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਈ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਰਤੀ
The primal Bani (divine word) came as Baba's hymn
→ Your divine words, as Guru Nanak’s utterances, became a sacred song of worship.
ਸਾਰੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਗਾਈ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਰਤੀ
The whole universe joins in singing Your aarti (devotional praise)
→ All creation joins together to praise You in harmony.
ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਏ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਇਕ ਸੁਰ ਇਕ ਸਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ
Hearing it, creation became one melody, one essence, Nanak
→ On hearing your divine song, the entire universe aligned in oneness and harmony.
ਧੰਨ ਦੁਨੀਆਦਾਰੀ ਏ ਵਿਚ, ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ
Blessed is worldly life when the Creator lives in the mind, Nanak
→ Life in this world becomes sacred when the Divine resides within one’s heart, O Nanak.
ਤੂੰਹੀ ਇਸ ਪਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ, ਤੂੰਹੀ ਉਸ ਪਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ
You are this side, Nanak, and You are the far side too
→ You are both the seen and the unseen, the worldly and the spiritual, O Nanak.
